A couple of weeks ago, I started memorizing scripture again. A few verses, I had down! I am ashamed to say that now I have already forgotten some of them, so it is time for a refresher course. I thought that I would share some of the verses that I am memorizing here so that I could be reminded of them when I read through my posts later on, and also for anyone who comes across this blog.
Memory Verse #1: Psalms 51:10 "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me"
This verse has sort of been my motto for the past few weeks/months. In high school, I was active in my church youth group, I went to church every Sunday, and I was committed to my faith. As I went to college, I was still committed to my faith, but my attendance at church each Sunday started slacking, and soon, I would go for months sometimes without reading God's word.
That's why I'm so thankful that I didn't get any job offers right after graduation, because if that had happened, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to come back to Sherman Bible Church and be challenged and motivated or the time to get back into the word like I needed. I'm telling you right now, God is always providing for us, even when we don't think he his.
Memory Verse #2: 1 Timothy 6:7 "For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it"
This verse has been useful for me to remember in the times where I have been caught up lately in the material things of this world that I want. For example, it has been my DREAM for a while now to buy one of the new Camero cars. I want one of those cars SO bad. But ever since I heard this verse, it's made me rethink why I want it so much. Trust me, I still want it, but I'm trying to look at it differently now. In the long run (Eternity with God), why does it matter so much if I have a Camero or not? After all, nothing in this world belongs to us. As I told my friend earlier this year - the Egyptians had it WRONG with their cute little pyramids over there in Giza.
Memory Verse #3: Ephesians 5:1-2 "Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children, and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God"
This is one of those verses that I had memorized back in high school, but needed a refresher course on. This is how we are supposed to live our lives. Jesus spent a lot of time telling his deciples all that stuff about how whoever wants to save his life will lose it, and whoever gives up their life will gain it. The truth is that as Christians, we are called to a life of service. We are called to live our lives as Jesus would have lived them.
Memory Verse #4: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 "Be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus"
This verse, self explanatory.
Memory Verse #5: Matthew 6:31-34 "So do not worry, saying "what shall we eat?" or "what shall we drink?" or "what shall we wear?" for the pagans run after all of these things, and your Heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
God wants us to put our lives in his hands! He will always provide for us if we let him. I have had to repeat this over and over in my head during the past few weeks as well. It is scary when you don't have a job and you are trying to plan a future with someone who also doesn't have a job! I had been playing the waiting game a lot (up until I got a job that is) for the past few months, and it is not fun! But as soon as I came across these verses, and I really started praying that God would provide for me and continue changing my heart, what do you know? A JOB OFFER. I think that prayer works.
Memory Verse #6 (the last one): Romans 12:2 "Do not conform any longer to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then, you will be able to test and approve of what God's will is - his good, perfect, and pleasing will"
Again, I think this is pretty self explanatory.
If anyone who reads this knows of any good Bible verses, leave me a comment! I always enjoy a new verse.
