I am determined not to let the holidays just pass me by this year. I want to make them mean something. Now is the time for me and Cody to start making our own family traditions! I think that I'll start by making November a month of thanks.
So each day, I'll try to post something I'm thankful for. Today, I'm thankful for my parents. They came to visit me and Cody this weekend and we had a great time. They came in late Thursday night so we could have all day Friday and Saturday to hang out.
Friday we chilled mostly at the house. We did make a couple trips to run some errands, though. Went to the bank and finally added Cody onto my banking accounts, so now he has full access to all of our money! (SCARY!) I trust him though, so it will be alright. We also pulled out some cash for our Dave Ramsey envelope system! I think I am really going to like paying cash for things. Then my parents took us out to eat at Chuy's for some good Mexican food.
The rest of the day we just tootled around the house and hung out before the Rangers game (which I slept through on the couch, and was glad I did because we lost pretty bad).
Saturday, we woke up early and went to the beach! I made some chicken salad for me and my dad to eat for lunch, and my mom and Cody brought leftover pizza and Mexican. My grandparents used to have a beach cabin on Bolivar Peninsula before it got annihilated by a hurricane. But the pilings are still there, and so we went to see what it looks like now. It looks pretty bad...it's all grown up with bushes and little trees and stuff like that. Too bad it costs so much money to rebuild now...I'd LOVE to have a beach cabin to go stay in again!
Our cabin used to be to the right of the one in the middle with the red roof! |
Some of the old neighbors that also had a cabin in our neighborhood just happened to be there this weekend, so we got to visit with them for a little while, which was fun. And we went and walked out on the Jetties (where I slit my big toe open when I was little). My mom warned me not to take off my shoes, but I just didn't listen to her...haha, I guess that sometimes our mothers really do know what's best for us.
Anyway, it was fun. On the ferry ride back over to Galveston, I was amazed at how many dolphins/porpoises were in the water! They were just everywhere! And really close to the beach too. I was shocked. But I always think it's awesome to see them. I would go down to Galveston just to ride the ferry boat back and forth if I didn't have anything better to do.
We concluded our get-a-way by walking down the Strand and looking in all of the little shops they have there. Since we went for Halloween weekend, we saw a bunch of little kids dressed up in their little costumes! They were so cute.
Ahh...what a great weekend :)
I had fun also. I like the idea having November a month of thanks...
